Connecting Medicine and Peace Corps

January 10, 2009

How great to hear from a RPCV who is seeking to make a big difference in our world!  Andrew Dykens (RPCV Mauritania 97-99)asked that I relay the message below to our FriendsofBenin2 Yahoo Group:

Greetings,

Please consider posting the following to your RPCV group page and or sending this via email to all members of your group/ organization.  THANK YOU!
——-

Please consider Voting for a project to improve Global Health.

Peace Care would connect the Peace Corps with physicians and health specialists. The project is currently in an online contest on
Change.Org  of ideas that will be presented to the Obama Administration on Inauguration Day!!!!  This could bring significant press to Peace Corps and Global Health Issues.

Voting occurs from January 5 through January 15. Please visit
www.peacecare.org  to learn how to vote and read more about the project.
Summary descriptions are posted in English, French, Spanish, and Arabic. So, please pass this along to your friends, colleagues, and connections around the globe!!!

All we need are votes — but we will need a great number.  Please unite for this cause.  Together we can make a World of a Difference!

Sincerely,
Andrew Dykens (RPCV Mauritania 97-99)

Where do you want to show our project support in 2009?

December 10, 2008

We had a good meeting last Saturday. If you couldn’t make it, there will be updated information for 2009 plans sent out via the listserv very soon. Meanwhile, where do you think we should show our project support for 2009?

End of Year RPCV Meeting 2008

November 21, 2008

We will elect officers, set the 2008 calendar and discuss projects to work on, projects to support and fundraising. Your attendance is helpful towards keeping the cause of the Returned Peace Corps Volunteers of West Michigan alive.

See you there.

601 Kent Hills Rd NE, GR

5:30 – 8:00pm

Personal hygiene items, new underwear and similar items for men and women will be collected to distribute locally.

Bring a dish to pass. This is an opportunity to prepare something traditional or festive or a favorite to share. We will do our International Dinner early in 2009.

There will be some beverages available (you can bring something, too, of course).

We will plan the 2008 calendar. This is our once a year business meeting. Fundraising will be a special topic as well as getting people connected.

This is an important meeting. I hope you can attend. All Returned Peace Corps Volunteers in the greater West Michigan area are welcome.

Yard Sale Success

September 22, 2008

A huge thank you to all who helped staff, setup and sell at the yard sale this past Saturday. It was a beautiful day.

Peace Corps Anniversary

September 22, 2008

It was on this day in 1862 that President Lincoln declared the Emancipation Proclamation, one of the most important executive orders in American history. It announced that slaves in rebel states were free as of January 1, 1863.

And on this day in 1961, President John F. Kennedy signed the bill that created the Peace Corps.

Yard Sale Fundraiser

August 29, 2008

With the Labor Day Weekend upon us, it is a good time to remind you of the RPCV Westmichigan Yard Sale Fundraiser.

Fundraiser Yard Sale, September 20, 2008

This is the year for our Fall Yard Sale at Ken Schilling’s house. It is scheduled for Saturday, September 20 from early am (7:30 am) until early afternoon (3pm ?).

The address is: 2228 Madison SE

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=2228+Madison+Grand+Rapids+MI+49507+&ie=UTF8&z=16&iwloc=addr

Last time, we made a good amount of money that we have, in turn, donated to other groups with needs. Please help make this a successful fundraiser.

Thank you ahead of time for your support.

What we need:

Items for sale -

Please select items for sale that are in good condition, functional and that you think will “sell” easily.

Please put a price on the items before you drop them off. When pricing, please be realistic. An item will move quickly with the right price. We don’t want to have anything leftover. Use a sticker, or masking tape, and a permanent marker.

You may drop off items no sooner than the week before. The closer to the weekend, the better.

Volunteers –

We need at least 4 people Friday night to help prepare and receive items for the sale. (Call Ken, for the exact time.)

We need 2 shifts of 3 people from 7:30 – 11:30 am and from 11 – 3pm.

We also need 1 shift of 3 people at 3pm to help get things packed up for donation to “In the Image” or other organization.

Sign up via email or by using this form:

Thanks again for all of your help, See you there.

Peace / Paz
