Where do you want to show our project support in 2009?

December 10, 2008

We had a good meeting last Saturday. If you couldn’t make it, there will be updated information for 2009 plans sent out via the listserv very soon. Meanwhile, where do you think we should show our project support for 2009?

April 19 Work Project

April 3, 2008

Five or six RPCVs are needed on April 19 for our first work project of 2008.  The work involves the scraping and painting of porch railings, spindles, and posts.  This effort is in support of Inner City Christian Federation’s (ICCF) housing ministry.  ICCF will provide all equipment and supplies.  Volunteers are asked to bring their own work gloves.  Work hours are from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.  Debriefing afterwards is anticipated at the Cottage Bar.  Contact Ken Schilling, project coordinator. The exact site location will be announced via the group email list. (see the link to the right.)

CHI – Afghanistan Project Support

February 13, 2008

Onbehalf of the group, Ken S. looked into the Afghan Learning Centers for Women and Children as a project that we would like to support. Creating Hope International of Dearborn, MI, the project sponsor, revealed that the administration costs of about 10%, half of which is attributed to the Afghan Institute of Learning, indicate a lean operation. Ken was satisfied with the bona fides of CHI and its program effectiveness. (He also discovered the director of CHI is a RPCV who served four years in Afghanistan in the late 1960’s.) Kathleen R. moved that the agreed sum of $500, as discussed in December, be sent to CHI. Carolyn C. seconded the motion which was unanimously approved.

Nothing But Nets – Mayumba, Gabon

February 8, 2008

At our International Potluck we voted to support “Nothing But Nets” with a $300 donation made through the Friends of Gabon RPCV Group. With this donation, we brought the total donation of the Gabon group very close to their $10,000 goal. These nets will specifically go to Mayumba, Gabon. Thanks to Gary for bringing this to the attention of the RPCV West Michigan Group.
